There are no fees associated with participating in the Air Cadet program. However, we would like to take this opportunity to inform all parents/guardians that there are a number of costs that we as a Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) must pay for in a timely fashion (rent, telephone, transportation, insurance, etc.). Since the Department of National Defense (DND), only covers a portion of the training that the cadets receive, the SSC must fundraise to meet the annual squadron training budget, which ranges from $85,000 to $100,000 in any given year. Our two largest expenses are facility rental costs at $36,000.00 per year, and the annual Alberta Air Cadet League assessment of approximately $60 per cadet (as counted at the end of June); which can be over $8,500 per year. The assessment is paid by every squadron in the province to support effective speaking competitions, volunteer screening, the selection process for advanced cadet training courses and international exchanges, regional gliding centres, insurance for all cadets while at cadet functions, public relations, and other activities of the Air Cadet League. What we truly need is a small commitment of your time as the parent or guardian of a cadet.

The SSC holds various fundraising activities during the year that need and deserve your support both by attending as well as in the planning and operating aspects. Without your active support, the squadron budget cannot be met and the cadets risk losing out on many activities.

We realize that in modern times, people have numerous demands placed on their time and not everyone can volunteer their time. Financial donations are gladly accepted and extremely welcome, of course, and we will issue tax receipts for the current tax year for any donation of $25.00 or more. If you choose to make a donation, please also check with your employer to see if they offer a matching donation program to multiply your donation dollars.

If you would like to make a monetary or physical donation to us, please contact SSC Treasurer or the Chair with any questions.  We would be more than happy (ecstatic really) to pick up donations of any kind!

If your employer has a matching contributions program, please apply! 781 Squadron – The Air Cadet League is a registered charity with Charitable Organization Number: BN 125593657RR0153. A letter can be sent to your employer if required to apply for the matching contributions.

You may have a significant piece of equipment, musical instruments, products or service from your business, or perhaps some valuable painting you wish to donate. All such items will qualify for a charitable tax receipt. We will assist you in determining ‘value’ of any asset or capital item you may wish to donate. All those items can be either used by our squadron, or used as raffle items, or used as silent auction items.
