About the Cadet Program

The Cadet Program is one of Canada’s largest federally sponsored youth development programs, consisting of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, Royal Canadian Army Cadets, and Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

Open to young Canadians aged 12 to 18, the program provides exciting, challenging, and rewarding opportunities that promote leadership, citizenship, physical fitness, and personal growth. Through a variety of activities and experiences, cadets develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and lifelong skills while building lasting friendships in a safe and supportive environment.

Cadets are active members of their communities, regularly participating in environmental initiatives, citizenship projects, volunteer activities, and community events. These experiences help develop responsible, engaged citizens who make meaningful contributions to Canadian society.

Cadets are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces, nor are they required or expected to pursue military service. While cadets are introduced to aspects of military heritage, traditions, and activities, the program focuses on developing well-rounded young leaders and exposing them to a wide range of educational and career opportunities.

The Cadet Program succeeds through strong community support and partnership, creating positive youth outcomes that leave a lasting impact on participants and their communities.
